Donaher calls for redistricting reform in Pennsylvania

Supports Fair Districts PA

Hanover Township, PA (February 9) – Dean M. Donaher of Hanover Township, Northampton County, candidate for State Representative in the 138th Legislative District, has released a statement on his support for redistricting reform in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:

“It is time to return the power of democracy back to the people of Pennsylvania. For far too long, political parties have determined the people they represent by gerrymandering ridiculous districts to suit their own electoral needs. The election process in our country was designed to allow the people to determine their own representatives.

The current gerrymandered districts within the Commonwealth must be redrawn and placed into the hands of its citizenry. From its initial proposal, I have firmly supported the Fair Districts PA proposal of appointing an impartial, independent citizens commission to direct this process. Designing less politically skewed districts will encourage more competitive elections and will create a more responsive legislature to the public. The culture that has dominated Harrisburg politics for decades has weakened the power of our votes. Let’s put an end to the status quote and the partisan gerrymandering process.”

Donaher supports both Senate Bill 22 and House Bill 722, and has advocated that both be brought up for consideration by the General Assembly. Having signed the Fair Districts PA petition, Donaher said, “if California and Arizona have done it, so can Pennsylvania. We need legislators who are willing to step up to the plate and take on the status quo.”
